Gratuities Policy

VMRF personnel should not accept any personal favor, gratuity, or entertainment directly or indirectly from any person, firm, corporation, or other entity that is engaged, or is endeavoring to engage in procurement activities or business transactions with VMRF.

Favors, gratuities, or entertainment bestowed upon members of the immediate families of VMRF personnel are viewed in the same light as those bestowed upon VMRF employees. Acceptance of entertainment, gifts, or favors from those who have or seek business dealings may be a source of embarrassment to VMRF and to the person involved, may affect the objective judgment of the recipient, and impair public confidence in the integrity of business relations between VMRF and industry.

In some circumstances, the interests of VMRF may be served by participation of VMRF personnel in widely attended lunches, dinners, and similar gatherings sponsored by industrial, technical, and professional associations for the discussion of matters of mutual interest. Participation by VMRF personnel is appropriate where the host is the association and not an individual contractor.

In some circumstances, the interest of VMRF may be served by participation in activities at the expense of individual persons, firms, or corporations. These activities shall be restricted to situations where no provision can reasonably be made for individual payment, e.g., public ceremonies, meals at a manufacturer's plant, or privately sponsored meetings in the public interest.
